RFA: UCSF Sandler Program for Breakthrough Biomedical Research (PBBR) & UCSF EaRTH Center co-funded Postdoctoral Independent Research Grant
Project Award Amount: $15,000
Application deadline: Monday, July 6, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. PDT
PBBR is currently accepting applications for their Postdocotral Independent Research Grant RFA. For the joint PBBR & EaRTH award, please see both the RFA and specific details related to the environmental health component below.
Description
UCSF postdoctoral scholars are invited to apply for funding through the Sandler Program for Breakthrough Biomedical Research (PBBR) Postdoctoral Independent Research Grant Program, which supports creative and independent research led by postdoctoral scholars in basic, preclinical, and translational biomedical science. These awards are intended to encourage innovative projects that extend beyond the primary research focus of a postdoctoral mentor and involve collaboration with an additional investigator or co-mentor.
In partnership with the UCSF P30 Center for Environmental Research and Translation for Health (EaRTH), applications that include a strong environmental health component will also be considered for co-funding. EaRTH-supported projects should align with the Center’s mission to understand how exposure to environmental pollutants and/or environmental chemicals during development influence disease and to intervene and prevent exposures to improve health throughout the lifespan, especially among vulnerable and underserved populations. Exposures may include relevant environmental chemicals and food additives, as well as factors that may affect biological responses to exposures such as psychosocial stress and the intersection between health and climate and environmental change. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Adverse health outcomes related to exposures during pregnancy and early development
- Mechanistic studies that identify pathways disrupted by environmental exposures
- Interactions between genetics and exposures in disease
- New technologies for monitoring exposures or their effects
- Interventions for mitigating the effects of exposures
- The intersection between health and climate and environmental change
For further details, eligibility, requirements, etc. please see here.
Application deadline: Monday, July 6, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. PDT
